Each week, at its Thursday celebration of Eucharist, the community of Whitefriars Hall remembers the US military and Iraqi citizens killed during the war in the country of Iraq. It is our way of remembering the sacrifice of both American and Iraqi families on our behalf. It also provides us a formal opportunity to pray as a community for the individuals whose lives have been lost in this war.

During the Prayers of the Faithful, one member of the community reads the following, inserting the name, age, rank, and hometowns of each of the Americans and the number of Iraqis killed.

We pray for the soldiers who this past week gave their lives in the armed service:

(listing of the American dead)

We ask that on this day we take a moment to remember those fallen in service of our country and to honor and mourn them with the utmost respect.

We also remember the (number of Iraqi citizens killed) Iraqis killed this past week.

We ask that with so many giving up their lives, we do not lose sight of the individual, that we remember that each and every number has one of God’s children behind it. We ask that we as a community and as a nation continue to hope and pray for peace.

Information about American casualties and the number of Iraqi deaths come from icasualties.org
